Where images come from
Most species and breed photographs under /animals/, /breeds/, and /pets/ were obtained from Wikipedia article lead images (typically Wikimedia Commons files). We resize and convert formats (PNG, WebP, AVIF) for performance. We do not claim copyright ownership of those photographs.
We maintain a growing attribution manifest (176 files with resolved Commons metadata so far
; 8 still unresolved ; 2 site-composed assets
). Run node scripts/build-image-credits.mjs --all to expand coverage. Unresolved files must not be assumed free for commercial reuse.

How to reuse an image
- Find the file in the table (or on the species page credit line).
- Open the Commons link for the full author and licence text.
- Follow that licence (credit the author, link the licence, note modifications such as cropping or format conversion).
Report a rights issue
If you are a rights holder and believe an image is used incorrectly, email [email protected] with the page URL, filename, and proof of ownership. We will review promptly and remove or correct the file.
