Hip Dysplasia in Labradors: Prevention & Care

Labradors are prone to hip dysplasia — an inherited malformation of the hip joint. Keep puppies lean, avoid excessive jumping while growing, and choose breeders who health-screen parents.

Signs

Bunny-hopping gait, stiffness after rest, reluctance to exercise.

Diagnosis

Vet exam and X-rays.

Management

Weight control, physiotherapy, pain relief, and sometimes surgery.
